Privacy Policy
Effective from 21 September 2026
1. Who we are
Maurya Cinema is a streaming service for films and series — with a special place for Bhojpuri, Hindi, Maithili and Magahi cinema — that you can watch on the web and in our mobile app. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Maurya Cinema.
We decide what personal data Maurya Cinema uses and why, which makes us the “Data Fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. This policy explains that in plain words.
2. What we know about you
Your account
Your email address and your password. We never keep your password itself — only a scrambled, one-way version of it (a bcrypt hash) that lets us check it when you sign in. Nobody at Maurya Cinema can see your password.
Your family’s profiles
An account can have up to five profiles. For each one we keep the name you give it, its avatar if you choose one, whether it is a Kids profile, and its maturity limit.
What each profile watches
For every film or episode a profile starts, we keep:
- how far into it you got, so you can pick up where you left off;
- whether you finished it;
- when you last watched it;
- and the titles you have saved to My List.
Keeping your account safe
When you sign in, and when the app or website quietly renews your sign-in in the background, we record the IP address and a short description of the browser or device it came from. We use this only to protect your account and to investigate misuse.
When you contact us
The messages you send us, and our replies, so we can help you.
What we never collect
- your phone number, date of birth, address or location;
- your contacts, photos or anything else on your phone;
- payment or card details — watching is free today;
- anything about what you do on other websites or apps.
3. How we use it
| What we use | So that… |
|---|---|
| Email and password | you can sign in on the web and in the app, and reset your password by email if you forget it. |
| Profiles | everyone at home gets their own Continue watching and My List, and each profile only sees titles within its maturity limit. |
| Watch progress | Continue watching and Resume take you back to the exact moment you stopped — on any device. |
| My List | the titles you save are waiting for you next time. |
| IP address and device | we can spot and stop someone misusing your account. |
How we pick what to show you. The Top 10 uses the total number of views each title has across all viewers — no one’s individual history. More like this is chosen from titles that share genres with the one you are looking at. The trailer previews that play on the home screen are not counted as views at all.
We use your data on the basis of the consent you give when you create your account, and — where the DPDP Act allows — to provide the service you have asked us for. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see section 9); since we cannot run your account without this data, withdrawing it means closing the account.
4. Things we will not do
- Sell your data, or rent or trade it, to anyone.
- Show you ads, or let advertising companies track you through Maurya Cinema.
- Use analytics or tracking tools that follow you around the web.
- Build a profile of your children or target anything at them.
6. What stays on your device
We only store what Maurya Cinema needs to work. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
- On the website — your sign-in is kept in your browser’s local storage, and one small cookie remembers which profile you picked. Signing out removes your sign-in.
- In the app — your sign-in and chosen profile are kept in your phone’s secure storage.
- Downloads — films you download are saved inside the app’s own storage on your phone. They never leave your device, and they are removed if you uninstall the app.
7. How long we keep it
We keep your account, profiles, watch progress and My List for as long as your account is open — that is what lets you come back months later and carry on.
When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal data within 30 days. The only exception is anything the law requires us to keep for longer, and then we keep just that, only for as long as required.
Password-reset links stop working after one hour. A sign-in expires after 30 days of not being used.
8. Keeping it safe
Everything between you and Maurya Cinema travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Passwords are stored only as one-way hashes. Sign-ins are renewed with fresh tokens and can be cut off — resetting your password signs you out everywhere. Our own team’s access is restricted and protected with two-factor authentication. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach ever affects your personal data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India, as the law requires.
9. Your rights, and how to use them
Under the DPDP Act you have the right to:
- access — get a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how we use it;
- correct — have anything wrong or incomplete fixed;
- erase — have your account and personal data deleted;
- withdraw your consent at any time;
- nominate someone to use these rights for you if you die or become unable to;
- complain — and have your complaint resolved (section 12).
Some of this you can do yourself in Maurya Cinema: add, rename or delete profiles, change a profile’s maturity limit, and add or remove titles from My List. For everything else — including deleting your account — contact us. We will confirm the request comes from the account holder, and reply within 30 days.
If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
10. Children
Maurya Cinema accounts are for adults (18+). Children watch through a parent or guardian’s account, on a Kids profile the parent sets up — which shows only titles rated U unless the parent chooses otherwise. For a Kids profile we keep only the name and avatar the parent chooses and what it watches, so the child can carry on where they stopped. We do not track children, and we never target anything at them.
11. When this policy changes
If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and its effective date. For a significant change — say, if we ever add a new kind of data or a new company that handles it — we will tell you by email or in Maurya Cinema before it takes effect.
12. Questions and complaints
For any question about your privacy, or to use any of the rights in section 9, contact Maurya Cinema.
Formal complaints are handled by our Grievance Officer. We will acknowledge a complaint within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days.
